The short answer
What should you check before comparing casino bonus wagering requirements?
Identify the amount the multiplier applies to, then read contribution rates, stake restrictions, expiry and cashout conditions together. Qualifying stakes are not winnings. Keep your deposited money separate from restricted bonus funds when asking about cancellation or withdrawal.
Read the evidence and limitations ↓What a wagering requirement measures
A wagering requirement is a target for qualifying stakes before specified funds become withdrawable. It is not a target for winnings. The Gambling Commission’s glossary describes both fixed totals and multiples of a stated amount. You need that amount before a multiplier is useful.
Read the particular promotion, general bonus rules and withdrawal conditions together. Record the offer date, account currency, calculation base and restrictions. This guide explains the arithmetic and questions to ask; it contains no verified live bonus offers or recommendation to accept one.
The same target goes by several names: “playthrough”, “rollover” and “wagering” usually mean it. Some terms, though, use “rollover” for a separate rule on deposited money, explained below. Go by the definition in the terms you are reading, not the label.
Bonus-only versus deposit-plus-bonus
Hypothetical example: a deposit of 50 units, bonus of 25 units and multiplier of 20. These figures demonstrate wording, not an available offer or permission to impose these terms in any jurisdiction. See the Great Britain rule below.
- 20× bonus only
- 20 × 25 = 500 units of qualifying stakes.
- 20× deposit plus bonus
- 20 × (50 + 25) = 1,500 units of qualifying stakes, if the stated calculation uses both amounts.
- 10× bonus only
- 10 × 25 = 250 units. Ten times is the ceiling Great Britain sets for bonus funds, explained below.
- 10× deposit plus bonus
- 10 × (50 + 25) = 750 units: the same threefold gap at a lower multiplier.
The same “20×” headline produces a threefold difference here. If the terms simply say “20× wagering”, ask what amount is multiplied rather than selecting the interpretation you prefer. Also establish whether the displayed counter shows the original target or the amount remaining.
Neither result is a loss forecast, a suggested budget or the amount you will receive. Repeated stakes may involve money already returned by earlier bets, and the balance can run out before the counter reaches its target. A larger deposit is not a solution to an unclear condition.
Work out a qualifying-stake target
Enter the figures from the terms you are reading. The calculator only multiplies and divides: it holds no casino’s offer, and nothing you type leaves this page.
- Qualifying-stake target
- —
- Stakes needed at this contribution
- —
- Theoretical long-run loss on those stakes
- —
Amounts are in your account currency. The loss figure is an average over a very large number of rounds at the return to player you enter; real sessions vary widely, and a balance can run out before the target is reached. It is not a prediction, a budget or a reason to play.
A published clause, worked through. The version 1.12 terms of Wintino and AquaSpins set a default for deposit bonuses in clause 7.16, checked on : 35 times the deposit and the bonus together, with withdrawals from the bonus capped at 10 times the bonus. A EUR 20 deposit with a EUR 20 bonus therefore needs 35 × 40 = EUR 1,400 of qualifying stakes, and at most 10 × 20 = EUR 200 can be withdrawn from it. At a hypothetical 96% return to player, EUR 1,400 of stakes costs EUR 56 on average. The same clause gives no-deposit bonuses 40 times wagering and a cap of 5 times the bonus. A promotion’s own rules can replace these defaults, so read the offer you are shown.
Where seven operators keep their bonus rules
Bonus rules sit in different documents at different operators, so the general terms may not be the place to look. In the terms read on (PlayBaze, Wintino and AquaSpins) and (the others):
| Operator | Where the rules are | Defaults in the general terms | Clause |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayBaze | A separate “Terms of Bonuses”, which the general terms point to; we have not read it | None | 7.5 |
| Wintino and AquaSpins | The general terms, unless an offer says otherwise | A deposit bonus needs 35 times the deposit plus the bonus, with at most 10 times the bonus withdrawable; a no-deposit bonus needs 40 times, with at most 5 times | 7.16 |
| TuffPuff, Winshark and Slots Vader | Each offer’s own terms, in the Promotions section | None | 1.5; 1.7 at Slots Vader |
| Rivo | Section 7 of the general terms, unless an offer states otherwise | One active bonus at a time and a EUR 2 maximum bet; winnings capped at 25 times a deposit bonus; sports, table-game and video-poker bets do not count; wagering ends when the balance falls to EUR 0.20 | 7.8–7.10, 7.16 |
When an offer has its own terms, they decide; the defaults only fill the gaps. Save a copy of the offer’s terms on the day you accept it.
Game contribution is not a return percentage
Contribution determines how much an eligible stake counts towards the promotional target. In a hypothetical 50% contribution rule, a 2-unit stake adds 1 unit of progress. At 100%, it adds 2; at 0%, it adds nothing. This arithmetic does not predict the game result.
Do not confuse contribution with return to player (RTP). A game counting fully towards a requirement can still lose the entire stake. An excluded game and a game with partial contribution may also have different consequences under the terms, so find the actual eligible-game list rather than relying on a category name.
Published terms often exclude whole game types. Rivo’s general terms, last updated 2 July 2026, count no bets on sports, table games such as roulette and baccarat, or video poker towards bonus wagering (clause 7.10).
Why are my casino wagers not counting towards the bonus?
Check three things first: whether the counter belongs to your active offer, whether the game contributes, and how the counter displays progress. A game opening successfully does not establish that its stakes count. For a concrete example, clauses 5.3 and 5.5 of the General Offer Terms from Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) allow specified games with zero contribution but give those wagers no progress. They also tell players to refresh the active-promotions page to see updated progress. These are OLG.ca instructions, not rules verified for WagerSift’s affiliate brands or every Canadian operator.
If a counter appears stuck, stop and check the existing record rather than placing another bet:
- Identify the offer. Check the promotion name, opt-in confirmation, active period and dated terms. Make sure the counter belongs to that offer.
- Match the game and round. Find the exact game’s eligibility and contribution rule. Zero contribution and prohibited play are different conditions; a game category alone does not settle either.
- Read the counter’s label. Establish whether it shows qualifying stakes completed, an amount remaining or a percentage. Keep the before-and-after figures and check the operator’s instructions for refreshing the display.
- Request a round-level explanation. Give verified support the round ID, time, stake and relevant rule. Ask what amount was credited and why any stake was excluded. Keep the reply if the calculation is disputed.
A refreshed screen does not prove the underlying calculation is correct. Do not deposit again, activate another offer or keep gambling to test a missing entry. An approaching expiry is a reason to preserve the evidence and raise the issue promptly, not to increase your stakes.
Maximum bet, cashout cap and withdrawal limit are different
- Maximum bet: a restriction on an individual stake while the relevant promotion applies. Check the unit, currency, covered balance and treatment of special game features.
- Bonus cashout or conversion cap: a stated ceiling on bonus-derived value that can become or be withdrawn as cash. Check exactly which funds it covers and when it is applied.
- Withdrawal transaction or period limit: a limit on payment requests over a stated period. It is a different question from how much of a bonus balance qualifies as cash.
Rivo’s general terms, last updated 2 July 2026, show all three side by side: a EUR 2 maximum bet while wagering a bonus (clause 7.16); winnings capped at 25 times a deposit bonus and 10 times a no-deposit bonus (clauses 7.8 and 7.10); and withdrawals limited to EUR 1,000 a day and EUR 10,000 a month (clause 6.13). Each limits something different.
A completed wagering counter does not answer all three. If a displayed balance changes at conversion, request an itemised explanation identifying the clause and balance affected. Do not assume that a promotional cap permits the operator to remove deposited funds.
For Great Britain, the Commission’s promotional-play guidance requires clear restrictions and an explanation of the specific breach when a withdrawal or winnings are refused on that basis, subject to regulatory obligations. Elsewhere, establish the applicable rules and complaint route rather than importing that framework.
No wagering does not answer every condition
Ask what has no wagering attached. A free-spin award, the winnings produced by those spins and a matched deposit are different things. For a free-spin offer, check the specified game, spin value, expiry and what happens to any winnings. Do not multiply the number of spins by their stake value and describe the result as cash you will receive.
Read eligibility, payment-method exclusions, opt-in requirements and expiry alongside any stated withdrawal or conversion cap. Find out which event starts the expiry clock and what remains if the offer expires. “No wagering” does not by itself remove account checks; use the verification guide for document requests.
An unclear answer is a reason to leave the promotion unaccepted. There is no need to deposit or activate it merely to investigate its conditions.
Cancelling a bonus and withdrawing your own money
Before selecting a cancellation button, ask for separate figures for deposited money, restricted bonus funds and related winnings. Confirm what cancellation would remove and what would remain withdrawable. Record the answer and relevant terms; a combined balance display is not a substitute for that breakdown.
Withdrawing before the wagering is complete can cost the bonus as well: Rivo’s terms allow it to deduct the bonus and any winnings from it from the withdrawal (clause 7.5).
The Gambling Commission’s deposit-balance guidance requires its regulated operators to allow withdrawal of deposit balances even while a bonus is active, subject to general regulatory obligations, and to display deposit and bonus balances separately. It also addresses transparent, cost-reflective processing fees. This is Great Britain guidance, not a finding about your account or a WagerSift partner.
Declining a promotion does not establish every condition for returning an ordinary deposit. Our Ireland guide distinguishes unplayed-funds conditions from verification. If money is already requested and has not arrived, use the pending-withdrawal guide rather than continuing to gamble to release it.
Deposit rollover is a separate rule from bonus wagering
Some terms attach a condition to deposited money itself, with no bonus involved: the deposit must be staked before it can be withdrawn without a charge, even when you decline every promotion. All seven operators we review have one, from a single wager of the deposit at PlayBaze, Wintino, AquaSpins and Rivo to three times the deposit at TuffPuff, Winshark and Slots Vader, with a charge of up to 15% or a refusal below the threshold.
Our guide to withdrawing a deposit you haven’t played compares the seven rules clause by clause, with the refund windows and worked examples. Staking more to avoid a charge is still gambling, with the losses that brings.
Sticky and non-sticky bonuses
Terms sometimes describe how a bonus sits in your balance. With a “sticky” bonus, the bonus amount itself can never be withdrawn: it is removed when you cash out, and only winnings above it may become withdrawable. With a “non-sticky” bonus, your deposit is used first, and you can usually withdraw winnings made with it by giving up the bonus before touching it.
Rivo’s terms describe one version: the bonus sits in the same balance as your money, each bet draws on both, winnings stay locked until the wagering is complete, and the requirement lapses if the balance falls to EUR 0.20 (clause 7.9).
These labels are informal and operators apply them differently, so they settle nothing on their own. Ask which balance each stake comes from, when the bonus becomes active, and what giving it up would remove.
Does the Great Britain 10x cap apply everywhere?
No. The Gambling Commission’s social responsibility (SR) code provision 5.1.1 prohibits in-scope licensees from imposing bonus-funds wagering requirements above 10 times. Its implementation notice gives 19 January 2026 as the effective date. This is a Great Britain regulatory requirement, not a worldwide standard.
The 20× examples above explain a calculation, not a compliant British offer. Neither an English-language website nor a country code in a supplier list establishes which licence covers an account. Check the exact operator and jurisdiction before applying a regulatory rule. This page does not establish that any WagerSift brand is Commission-licensed.
A short checklist before accepting an offer
Keep one dated note with the actual terms, not a copied advert. These five questions expose more than the headline amount:
- What balance is multiplied, and what is the resulting qualifying-stake target?
- Which games count, at what rate, and what stake restrictions apply?
- When does the offer expire, and what happens to each balance then?
- What becomes cash, is there a cap, and what happens if I decline or cancel?
- Can I withdraw my own funds, through which method, and which account checks remain?
If any answer is missing, mark it unknown rather than treating it as favourable. Use the wider operator research checklist for identity and account controls. A promotion is optional, and an expiring offer is not a reason to exceed your limits.

Frequently asked questions
What does a 20x wagering requirement mean?
It means twenty times the amount specified in the terms, not twenty times whatever total happens to appear in your account. As arithmetic, 20 × 25 units is 500 units of qualifying stakes. If the stated base is a 50-unit deposit plus a 25-unit bonus, the result is 1,500. These are hypothetical calculations, not current offers or universally permitted terms.
Compare the two calculation bases →
Link to this answerWhat does 35x the deposit and bonus mean?
It means thirty-five times the deposit and the bonus added together. The default in the Wintino and AquaSpins terms, checked on 27 September 2026, works that way: a EUR 20 deposit with a EUR 20 bonus needs EUR 1,400 of qualifying stakes, and at most EUR 200 can be withdrawn from the bonus.

Link to this answerWhy do I have to wager my deposit before withdrawing it?
Some terms require deposited money to be staked before withdrawal, even without a bonus. In terms read in September and October 2026, PlayBaze may deduct 8% (at least EUR 4) from a deposit not wagered once, Wintino and AquaSpins may keep 10% of the last deposit, and TuffPuff, Winshark and Slots Vader withhold up to 10% or 15% until bets reach three times the deposit.

Link to this answerWhat is the maximum bet while wagering a bonus?
Whatever the offer’s own terms set, so check before your first bet. Rivo’s general terms fix EUR 2 while a bonus is active and treat a larger bet as a breach that can cost the winnings from it (clause 7.16). TuffPuff, Winshark and Slots Vader leave bonus rules to each offer’s terms.

Link to this answerIs game contribution the same as RTP?
No. Contribution describes how much an eligible stake adds to a promotional progress counter. RTP describes a theoretical game-return measure. A 100% contribution does not mean the stake is returned or the player cannot lose.
Understand the progress counter →
Link to this answerWhy is my casino wagering progress not increasing?
Common causes are a different active offer, a game that contributes less than expected, or a counter that shows the amount remaining rather than progress made. Follow the operator’s display-update instructions, then request a calculation for the recorded round if the discrepancy remains. A game being playable does not prove its wagers count. Do not place more bets as a test.
Follow the wagering-progress checklist →
Link to this answerDoes no wagering mean I can immediately withdraw the full displayed bonus?
Not necessarily. Establish what the phrase applies to: the bonus itself, winnings from a free spin or another balance. Then check eligibility, expiry, any stated conversion or cashout cap, and account verification. This page does not confirm a particular operator’s offer.
Read the conditions beyond the multiplier →
Link to this answerWhat is a sticky bonus at a casino?
A bonus that stays attached to your balance and is never paid out itself. It is taken off when you cash out, so only winnings above it can become cash. Operators use the label loosely, so ask which balance each bet is drawn from before you accept an offer.
Compare sticky and non-sticky bonuses →
Link to this answerWhat happens if I cancel a casino bonus before finishing wagering?
It depends on the terms: cancelling can remove bonus funds and associated winnings. Before confirming, ask which bonus funds and winnings would be removed, what deposited money remains and how it can be withdrawn. Do not treat a displayed combined balance as an agreed cash amount or continue gambling to avoid losing a promotion.
Check cancellation and withdrawal separately →
