Casino Verification: Documents, Rejections & Safe Uploads

Understand casino ID, address and bank-statement requests. Check why documents were rejected, what to clarify and how to verify the upload channel.

The short answer

What should you do when a casino asks for verification documents?

Identify the purpose of the check, the exact missing information and the accepted documents before uploading: operators publish different lists, from William Hill in Ireland to PlayNow in British Columbia and Lucky Casino in Ontario. If a file is rejected, ask which detail failed, and confirm the recipient before sending anything. Identity approval does not mean a withdrawal has been sent.

Read the evidence and limitations ↓

Match the document to the check

Casino verification, often called KYC (Know Your Customer), is how an operator confirms who a customer is, where they live and that a payment method is theirs. It is not one interchangeable document request, and proof of address, typically a recent bill, statement or official letter showing your name and home address, answers only one of those questions. Before uploading anything, identify what the operator says is missing. A document showing an account balance may not show an address; a passport does not explain where a particular deposit came from.

Use this table to frame your question. The examples are possible evidence types, not an accepted-document list for your casino.

What is the request trying to establish?

Which documents can a casino request?

The Gambling Commission’s guidance for Great Britain gives passports, driving licences and household bills as examples. It does not prescribe one document list for every business. Its rules and explanations must not be applied automatically to an Irish, Canadian or other account.

Named operators publish different rules, as the table shows. Each row is that operator’s own instruction, read on the date given; none is WagerSift’s requirement or a universal KYC standard.

Published document rules from named operators
Operator and marketWhat its published page saysRead on
William Hill, Republic of IrelandAn Irish driving licence, or a passport or Irish Residence Permit with two address documents dated within six months. Clear photos or digital copies, with all four corners visible.27 September 2026
PlayNow, British ColumbiaIncomplete identity, age or residency checks can come from a short Equifax file or an address that differs from the credit file; support may ask for photo ID and a utility bill.23 September 2026
Lucky Casino, OntarioID showing an address may be enough; if more is needed, a bank statement showing the address or the latest tax bill. Utility bills from the last three months; no mobile-phone bills or insurance documents.23 September 2026
PlayBazePhoto ID, a selfie holding it, and a bank statement or utility bill issued within three months; a withdrawal of any amount triggers full verification.23 September 2026
Wintino and AquaSpinsDocuments are due within 30 days of a request and are usually verified within 10 days of a complete answer; payment can be withheld until then (clause 5.3 of both version 1.12 terms).27 September 2026
TuffPuff and WinsharkDocuments are due within 30 calendar days of a withdrawal request or the casino’s request, or winnings are confiscated and the account closed; checks take up to 3 business days, and a video call can be required. Card copies must hide the middle six digits and the security code, and a utility bill must be no older than 3 months (clauses 2.5, 2.5.1 and 9.2).3 October 2026
Slots VaderThe same 30-day deadline and confiscation, plus a scheduled verification call that counts as failed if refused. Card copies hide the middle eight digits; the ID must not expire within 3 months, and one check asks for it beside a handwritten note of six random numbers (clauses 2.6.1, 2.7, 9.2, 36.1 and 37.2). Nothing is paid until verification is complete.3 October 2026
RivoA full check for any withdrawal, or once lifetime deposits pass EUR 2,000: photo ID, a selfie holding it and a recent bank statement or utility bill, usually reviewed within 48 hours (clauses 8.5 and 8.6).3 October 2026

If a checklist from another site says “three months” while your operator says something different, do not combine the two into a guessed rule. Keep the actual request and its date. Ask whether a replacement, alternative issuer or different file format is acceptable before collecting more documents.

Proof of address or ID rejected: what to check

Start with the rejection reason rather than repeatedly uploading the same file. The William Hill FAQ names expired, unclear, incomplete or cropped documents as possible reasons for its process; the other rows are common mismatches. The right-hand column is what to ask, not a diagnosis of your account.

A rejection reason and the question it calls for
Rejection reasonWhat to ask the operator
Expired documentWhich valid documents it accepts instead, and whether a renewal receipt counts. Some operators also refuse an ID that expires soon: Slots Vader’s terms require at least 3 months’ validity.
Unclear or blurred imageWhich details could not be read, and which format it accepts: photo, scan or PDF.
Incomplete or croppedWhether all four corners, both sides or every page must be visible.
Wrong type of documentWhich issuer, document type and date window it accepts for this particular check.
Name or address mismatchHow to update the account details, and which evidence the update needs.
“Verification failed” with no reasonWhich check failed: identity, address, payment ownership or source of funds.
  1. Record the rejected item. Keep the upload date, document type and exact message.
  2. Check the genuine account details. If a name or address has changed, ask for the account-correction procedure and supporting evidence needed. Do not edit an issued document to make it match.
  3. Ask about alternatives. If you do not have a bill in your name, describe that situation and request the operator’s accepted alternatives. Do not borrow another person’s document or assume a tenancy document will be accepted.
  4. Keep the next submission identifiable. Note what changed and retain the acknowledgement. Ask which check remains open if the replacement is also rejected.

A clearer scan cannot resolve an unexplained difference in policy or identity. If the reply does not identify the problem, request clarification of the outstanding requirement and the relevant complaint process.

For a rejected proof of address, a bill in someone else’s name or mismatched details, the proof-of-address checklist and enquiry builder helps you prepare specific questions before resubmitting. It does not predict whether a document will be accepted.

No utility bill in your name: ask about alternative address evidence

A utility bill is not the only example in William Hill’s Republic of Ireland instructions: its alternative verification route also lists an insurance policy or a document from the Revenue Commissioners or a Department of State. The two-document and six-month conditions described above still belong to that specific route. These examples do not establish what another operator accepts.

If household bills are in someone else’s name, ask whether a document issued to you is acceptable and which address details it must contain. If you recently moved, explain the mismatch and ask how to update your account and which evidence is needed. Do not edit an old address on a document, use another person’s bill as your own or assume that opening a second account will resolve the check.

Canada: proof of address rejected or no utility bill?

Ask which check failed before choosing a replacement: Canadian operators publish different document rules, as the PlayNow and Lucky Casino rows in the table above show. PlayNow’s answer ties a failed check to the credit file and may lead to a request for a utility bill without naming an alternative, so ask what else it accepts. Lucky Casino also specifies official PDFs or photos of physical documents sent to the home address.

These are operator-specific examples, not guaranteed acceptance or a requirement to obtain a bank statement. Do not extend the utility-bill age limit to every document or assume any government-issued letter qualifies. Ask for the accepted issuer, date window, format and reason for rejection. Address evidence also does not automatically establish payment-instrument ownership: clarify that separately if the request concerns a deposit or withdrawal. Follow the redaction limitations below before masking details.

Bank statements, source of funds and source of wealth

Ask why the statement is requested. Showing who owns an account is different from showing how money arrived in it. The Gambling Commission’s anti-money laundering (AML) glossary distinguishes the origin of money financing a transaction (source of funds) from how a person accumulated their overall assets (source of wealth).

Illustrative example: a statement showing a transfer from savings may establish the immediate route, but it may not answer a separate question about how those savings arose. Conversely, a broad account of someone’s assets may not connect a particular payment to them. These examples explain the distinction; they are not instructions about which evidence any casino must accept.

Ask for the period, transactions and purpose of the enquiry. If the operator changes its request, keep both versions and ask whether the new requirement replaces or supplements the old one. Do not assume that a particular deposit amount automatically triggers the same checks everywhere.

Can you redact a bank statement or identity document?

Only if the recipient agrees, so ask before masking details. In its published response to a February 2025 information request, the Gambling Commission says it has not specified a policy or expectations about redacted documents for online identity verification. This concerns its Great Britain remit; it neither requires every operator to accept redactions nor supplies a rule for Irish or Canadian accounts.

Explain which fields you want to hide and ask what must remain visible for this particular check. If the enquiry concerns source of funds, transaction details may be central to the request rather than unrelated information. Ask whether a narrower period or alternative document would meet the stated purpose. Retain the original and the written instructions; never change the underlying names, dates, amounts or transactions.

Some operators make masking part of the instruction. TuffPuff’s and Winshark’s terms ask for card copies with the middle six digits and the security code hidden, Slots Vader’s with the middle eight (clause 9.2), and Slots Vader’s anti-money-laundering policy lets you blur everything on an ID except the date of birth, nationality, gender, names and photo (clause 36.1). Where the operator has its own masking rule, follow it.

Check the upload route before sharing files

Return to the website address you have independently checked, or use a support channel you have verified. Confirm an unfamiliar document processor with the operator before following an unexpected link. A logo, search advert or social-media reply is not sufficient evidence of who will receive your files.

The Irish Data Protection Commission’s transparency guidance describes information about the controller, purpose and legal basis, recipients and retention. Use those headings when reading an applicable privacy notice. This is a privacy check, not a finding that a particular upload service is secure or compliant.

  • Never supply passwords, card security codes or one-time login codes as identity evidence.
  • Keep acknowledgements and references securely. Do not post identity documents in public reviews or complaint comments.
  • Do not send documents to WagerSift. This guide has no upload form and we do not verify player accounts.

A message to clarify a verification request

Adapt this enquiry to the operator’s verified support channel. Include only the reference information needed there; the placeholders are not a request to send us personal details.

Please clarify the verification request linked to [case reference]. Which check is outstanding: identity, address, payment ownership, source of funds or source of wealth? For [document type] submitted on [date], please identify the rejected or missing detail, accepted alternatives, document-date window and required format. Please confirm what may be redacted, the secure submission route, and how I will be notified when this check is complete. If this holds a withdrawal, please identify its current stage and any separate outstanding condition.

Keep the reply with the request and acknowledgement. A sent message is not approval; a document receipt is not proof that its contents have been accepted.

Verification approved but the withdrawal is still pending

Separate three checkpoints: the documents were accepted, the withdrawal was approved, and the payment was released. Ask which one is complete. If the operator reports a payment was sent, request its release date and traceable reference rather than treating “verified” as proof of bank receipt.

The Gambling Commission’s Great Britain guidance provides no universal ID-check duration. Within its remit, it also distinguishes information that could reasonably have been requested earlier from later information needed to meet legal obligations. That does not establish a deadline, breach or entitlement for an account elsewhere.

Some operators pay nothing while a check is open. Slots Vader’s terms block withdrawals while documents show “In Progress” and make no payment until identity, age and residence are verified (clause 37.1 and section 11), and TuffPuff, Winshark and Slots Vader may ask for the first payout to go by bank wire to complete their checks (section 11).

For approval without receipt, use our pending withdrawal and payment-trace guide to separate the casino request ID from a provider reference and prepare a clear complaint.

Use the Ireland withdrawal guide for euro transfer and escalation context, or the Canada withdrawal guide for transfer records and provincial complaint-route checks. Do not make another deposit, cancel a request or continue gambling merely to try to unlock an unexplained hold.

What happens if you miss a verification deadline?

Some terms set a deadline with a severe consequence, so note it the day a request arrives. TuffPuff, Winshark and Slots Vader allow 30 calendar days from a withdrawal request, or from the casino’s own request, and then confiscate winnings and close the account (clauses 2.5 and 2.6.1). Slots Vader can also require a scheduled verification call, which can be moved up to 3 times for events outside your control; refusing it counts as failed verification, with the same result (clause 2.7). Wintino and AquaSpins allow 30 days and may withhold payment until the documents arrive (clause 5.3).

If you cannot meet a deadline, ask in writing for more time before it passes and keep the reply. Do not send altered or borrowed documents to beat a deadline; a refused or failed check is a separate problem from a late one. Our guide to when a casino can keep your winnings sets this deadline beside the other grounds for confiscation.

How the published brand evidence fits

The PlayBaze verification notes separate its published document list from an unresolved domain reference. The Wintino verification notes and the AquaSpins verification notes explain the identity, residence, payment-ownership and source-of-funds checks in their shared version 1.12 terms. Read the source limits before applying any of them to an account. The rules tables in the TuffPuff, Winshark, Slots Vader and Rivo reviews list their deadlines and document rules clause by clause.

These are documented policies, not WagerSift account tests or recommendations to submit documents. For research before joining, use the operator research checklist; for choosing a funding and return route, use the payment-methods guide. Verification approval alone does not establish local authorisation, service quality or a successful withdrawal.

Frequently asked questions

Does casino proof of address always have to be less than three months old?

No. No single cutoff applies to every casino: William Hill’s Republic of Ireland FAQ allows six months in one alternative route, while TuffPuff’s, Winshark’s and Slots Vader’s terms ask for a utility bill no older than three months. Each is that operator’s own instruction. Ask for the accepted document type, issue-date window and required fields for your account.

Why does a casino want a bank statement if my ID is already approved?

The request may concern payment-account ownership, address or the origin of funds rather than identity alone. Ask which purpose, period and fields the operator needs. ID approval does not by itself answer those other questions.

Match the request to its purpose →

How can I verify my address without a utility bill in my name?

Ask for the operator’s accepted alternatives. William Hill’s Irish instructions include insurance and specified government documents in one route, but that does not establish acceptance elsewhere. Explain whose name the bills carry or whether you recently moved; do not submit another person’s bill as your own.

Can I redact my bank statement before uploading it?

Only if the recipient agrees, so ask which fields may be obscured. The Gambling Commission’s published response sets no redaction policy for online identity verification. Some operators set their own: TuffPuff and Winshark want the middle six card digits and the security code hidden, Slots Vader the middle eight. Do not change underlying details, and confirm the recipient through a verified channel.

Which documents do Canadian casinos accept as proof of address?

It depends on the operator. Lucky Casino in Ontario accepts ID showing an address, or a bank statement or the latest tax bill, but not mobile-phone bills or insurance documents; PlayNow in British Columbia may ask for photo ID and a utility bill. Ask your own operator for its list rather than borrowing another’s.

What happens if I miss a casino’s verification deadline?

It depends on the terms, and some are severe. TuffPuff, Winshark and Slots Vader allow 30 calendar days from a withdrawal request and then confiscate winnings and close the account; Wintino and AquaSpins allow 30 days and may withhold payment. If you cannot meet a deadline, ask in writing for more time before it passes.

Does verification approval mean my withdrawal has been sent?

No. Document approval, approval of the withdrawal and release of a payment are separate checkpoints. Request the specific status and, if the operator says funds were sent, the release details and payment reference. This guide provides no universal approval or arrival time.

Evidence and sources

Research basis
Public Gambling Commission guidance, its AML glossary, an operator-specific Republic of Ireland verification FAQ, Irish Data Protection Commission guidance and scoped PlayNow BC and Lucky Casino Ontario help examples, checked on 23 September 2026; the Wintino and AquaSpins document clause was read on 27 September 2026, and the TuffPuff, Winshark, Slots Vader and Rivo terms on 3 October 2026. The workflow, rejection table and enquiry template are editorial tools.
What this does not establish
No universal document list, acceptance guarantee or account outcome is established; the deadlines shown are the named operators’ own. Great Britain guidance is not Irish or worldwide law; a single operator’s instructions do not apply to every brand. No player account was tested.
